Maths

At St Peter’s we teach maths using the White Rose Maths schemes of learning as our spine, supplemented/supported by other resources which is designed to give sufficient time for teachers to explore and understand concepts in depth. Pupils are given access to fluency, problem solving and reasoning and the opportunity to gain competency in Maths by using a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach. Use of concrete apparatus, tens frames, part whole models and bar models are used to support learning.  ‘Talk for Maths’ is encouraged to develop mathematical thinking and reasoning and to dig deeper into mathematical concepts. Pupils work both collaboratively and independently solving problems which require them to develop perseverance and resilience.
