Reading

Reading is at the heart of what we do at St. Peter's. We aim to teach children to read quickly, and foster in them a love of reading which will stay with them for their whole life. Our reading is based around the best in children's literature which we refine and adapt as new novels and texts are published.

Early Reading: at St. Peter’s we teach phonic using Read Write Inc.

What is Read Write Inc?

Read Write Inc. Phonics is a comprehensive literacy programme, weaving decoding, comprehension, writing and spelling together seamlessly. Fidelity to the teaching programme, rigorous assessment, tracking and one-to-one tutoring ensure that schools guarantee progress for every child.

Once children become confident and fluent readers, they progress onto the St Peter’s reading and writing Shine curriculum, which covers all aspects of the National Curriculum for English and is steeped in high quality texts which reflect the diverse community we serve.

For information and tutorials on how to support your child learning to read go to:   http://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/parents/

QR codes are sent out regularly for parent/carers to access online lessons at home to support their child.

Particular links may be sent out by class teachers for sounds specific to a child’s need, ensuring that progress continues to be made.
