Transferring between Primary Schools
Bolton Council is responsible for coordinating admissions into all schools for those families resident within the Bolton Metropolitan Borough. This includes
- Children wishing to change from one school to another school within the borough
- Children who have arrived in the borough requiring a school place
- Children wishing to move from an independent school to a school maintained by the Council
- Children resident in the borough but requiring admission to a school in another borough
If you live in the area of another local authority then you must make an application through the school admission team for that authority
Is there an application form I need to complete?
You must ensure your child’s continued attendance at their current school whilst your application is being considered however it is recognised that for families who have moved into Bolton, this may not always be possible. You must in such circumstances inform the headteacher at their previous school of the arrangements you are making.
Please see our most recent admissions policy below to find all the information you need to secure a place for your child at St Peter’s Smithills Dean. If you require any further knowledge or would like to come and have a tour of our school, please get in touch with the school office at 01204 333500 or email the school office at email@example.com

Admissions for September 2025
Consultation on admission arrangements for 2025
A consultation on our admission arrangements for the September 2025 intake will take place from Friday 17 November 2023 until Tuesday 2 January 2024. We are proposing changes to how we hold waiting lists for places. For the reception intake, if your child is refused a place at our school we will continue to automatically add your child to the waiting list and this will be maintained until 31 December 2025.
However, we are changing the way we run waiting lists for in year admissions. If you apply in year and your child is refused a place, we are proposing that you would now need to ask for your child to be placed on a waiting list. We are also proposing that the waiting list only be held for one term at a time. We are making these changes to provide more stability for schools and to give parents more realistic expectations about the opportunity for gaining a place from a waiting list.
As the local authority are co-ordinating consultation on our behalf, full details of our proposed admission arrangements, details on the consultation and how to respond can be viewed here: Bolton Consultations. All comments must be received by Tuesday 2 January.
Do feel free to contact school if you have any questions about this.
