At St. Peter’s these values are reinforced regularly and we keep an up to date record of all teaching and learning opportunities.
Democracy
Everyone has a voice and everyone deserves to be heard.
Democracy means that people have a say in decisions that affect them. At St Peter’s, we encourage children to share their ideas and opinions, listen carefully to the views of others and understand that everyone's voice matters. Our Pupil Governors and Class Governor meetings give children real opportunities to influence life in our school. We encourage every child to see themselves as a leader who can make a positive difference. As a school we are part of the Forward As One Pupil Parliament too, giving our children a voice within the Trust.

The Rule of Law
Rules help to keep us safe, fair and happy.
Rules and laws are there to help people live and work together safely and fairly. At St Peter’s, we learn why rules are important and what happens when they are followed – or when they are not. We understand that rules apply to everyone and that we all have responsibilities. We explore rules in school, our community and the wider world, including rules connected to different faiths and beliefs.

Individual Liberty
We can be ourselves, make choices and let our own light shine.
Individual liberty means having the freedom to be yourself, make choices and express who you are, while understanding that our choices should not harm or unfairly affect others. At St Peter’s, we celebrate the things that make us different. We encourage children to be confident in who they are, make positive choices and have the courage to let their own light shine. We also learn that with freedom comes responsibility – we should use our choices wisely and respect the choices and freedoms of others.

Respect
We respect everyone and value what makes each person special.
At St Peter’s, we know that everyone is different. We may have different opinions, cultures, families, faiths, interests and ways of doing things. We do not always have to agree, but we should always listen to others and treat them with kindness and respect. We encourage children to celebrate what makes each person unique and to make sure that everyone feels valued, included and able to let their light shine.

Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
We learn about, respect and celebrate people who are different from us.
People have different faiths, beliefs, cultures and ways of living. At St Peter’s, we believe that these differences make our community richer and more interesting. We learn about different religions and worldviews with open minds. We may not share the same beliefs as someone else, but we can listen, learn, ask questions and treat everyone with kindness and respect. We don't simply “tolerate” difference – we seek to value and celebrate diversity, recognising that every person has their own light to shine. Bolton is a diverse, multi-cultural town and we celebrate all the differences within Bolton and our school, so our children learn to celebrate differences, not fear them.

At St. Peter’s we will actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British Values, including ‘extremist’ views.
